This delightful range of animal heads have been hand made by local artist Alison Coaten who got the idea after a trip to the Natural History Museum at Tring, observing the extensive collection of animals, many with quirky expressions like the ‘smiling polar bear’ and particularly the gallery of dogs.
Made from Scarva Earthstone each piece is decorated with two coats of white slip before its first firing to 1200c and this is followed by two coats of white crackle glaze for the second firing. The heads are finished with Indian ink to highlight the crackle and then mounted onto European oak blocks with brass tube.
